Focus on Jason Thompson
By Laurie Flesch
General Hospital fans got their first peek at Jason Thompson in 2005 when he was cast as the young and handsome lady-killer, Dr. Patrick Drake. Patrick is the son of Dr. Noah Drake, played by Rick Springfield. Thompson, a newcomer to soaps, originated the role he’s now become famous for portraying. When Patrick first came to town, he was an arrogant, pompous surgeon with little respect or regard for anyone other than himself. Over the next few years, the character went through a complete changeover. Patrick has since transformed into a dedicated and devoted husband, father, and brother. He’s also become a doctor who cares deeply about his patients and his co-workers.
Jason Thompson has been featured in a number of front burner stories. He was a key player in the recent “hospital crisis.” Thompson also lead the cast of the General Hospital spin off, General Hospital, Night Shift for two successful seasons with his GH co star and on screen love interest, Kim McCullough.
Thompson hails from St. Albert, Alberta, Canada. Before becoming an actor, Thompson worked as a model. He appeared in numerous print and
television ads. Thompson is sometimes recognized for the “Everybody In…” series of three television ads he did for retail chain, The Gap. Once he became a successful model, it wasn’t long before Thompson tried his hand at acting. He appeared in a number of theater productions, including The Academy, More Than You, and Jakob. Thompson can also be seen in the horror film, Wishmaster 4: The Prophecy. Thompson’s televison credits include roles on Deep Cover, Felicity, and Undressed.
Thompson currently owns two restaurant/bars (Halo and Red Star) in the Edmonton area of Canada. In an early interview with soapoperadigest.com, Thompson said, “It was something my two partners and I always wanted to do, something we talked about throughout high school. We took this empty building and opened up a bar. Four years later we opened another one next door to it. I think I was 22 when we first started developing Halo.” To read the full interview, follow this link.
Thompson is currently
